Type 2 diabetes is a rapidly spreading disease worldwide and now an important cause of its spread has been revealed.
Eating red meat (beef or goat) twice a week increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
This claim came out in a medical study in America.
A study by Harvard TH Chan School of Medicine found that the higher the consumption of red meat, the higher the risk of diabetes.

The study revealed that more than 460 million people worldwide are suffering from type 2 diabetes and the prevalence of this disease is increasing rapidly.
The study examined data from 2 research reports on 216,695 people.

The dietary habits and health of these individuals were monitored from 1976 to 2017, and during this period, questionnaires were filled out every other year to obtain details about the consumption of various foods.
As of 2017, 22,800 people were diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

The study found that people who ate the most red meat had a 62 percent higher risk of diabetes.
Eating red meat in processed or plain form 2 to 3 times a week also increases the risk of diabetes by 40 to 51 percent.
In comparison, high consumption of pulses or nuts reduces the risk of diabetes by 30%.
People who consume more red meat tend to consume less fish, fruits, and vegetables, are less physically active, and have higher body weight, all of which increase the risk of diabetes, the researchers said.

He said that prevention of diabetes is very important as it increases the risk of heart disease, kidney disease, cancer, and dementia.
In the past, research reports have also linked red meat consumption to diabetes.
The researchers involved in this new study also shed light on possible reasons for the link between red meat consumption and diabetes.
Red meat is high in fat, which reduces insulin sensitivity and pancreatic cell function, he said.
